The mobile device version of the Snow Plowing site provides a light weight version of the standard site. The mobile version allows a device such as a smart phone or tablet to quickly view plowing operations in a locality. When first started the application will ask for permission to detect the current location, if the user has given permission the map will default to the location of the device.
In general, a snow event with over 2 inches of snow will trigger plowing activities. Displaying of plowing activities at present is limited and for the areas that support the tracking operations, the plow paths are displayed in green on the map. In Northern Virginia the roads are marked competed by neighborhood and individual tracking is not done. Along the interstates, camera icons are displayed. By touching the icon the streaming video from traffic cameras can be viewed but this feature not supported on all mobile devices and may need to be viewed from a different device or PC.
For more information about VDOT and expanded coverage of our plowing operations you can either select the Full Website option on the menu or view the site on a standard PC or laptop. See the Full Website help section below for more information on this option.
This resets the map so that it is centered on the current location. This option is only available if you have allowed the site to use your current location when you first started the application. Please refer to your device's manual on how to change this privacy setting or use the Find Address option.
Enter as complete an address as possible to have the map re-centered on the area of interest.
VDOT divides Virginia into 9 maintenance districts. The boundaries of each district can be viewed by selecting the Virginia option on the Districts menu. This option is a convenient way to center the map on a specific section of the Commonwealth.
This option over-rides the default mobile app and loads the standard website. This option should work well with most tablets but smart phones can experience performance problems. The full web site has an expanded help file which contains additional information on VDOT operations.
